Join the Louisa County Historical Society on Saturday, June 22, 2024 for a behind-the-scenes look inside some of Louisa County's historic homes. This year's driving tour focuses on homes in the western portion of the County and takes visitors on a journey through over 250 years of Louisa history in the six homes included in the 2024 Homes Tour.
Begin in the Green Springs National Landmark Historic District with Green Springs Plantation, which remains relatively unaltered since it was built by Richard Morris in 1772, and whose outbuildings are an outstanding example of early dependencies.
Continue to Glen Burnie which has evolved from a simple one over one structure built in the last quarter of the 18th century to its present appearance with at least 4 additions over the last 150 years.
Built in late 1700s, Prospect Hill and its nine dependencies have been carefully restored to showcase the breadth of the homes use and evolution over time. The early Thompson home with its wide-plank floors and wainscoting was incorporated into the larger structure built by the Overtons in the 1840s.
Drive into the Town of Louisa, which recently celebrated its 150th anniversary, to see the Boxley Place Inn on Ellisville Drive which paints a romantic picture of the early 1900s with its elegant brick façade, stately columns and inviting porches.
A short distance from the Boxley Place is 206 Ellisville Drive a charming, recently restored residence built in 1910 which showcases a beautiful colonial style home in a lovely 1.64 acre setting.
Finally a short distance from downtown Louisa on the west side of Courthouse Rd is Kalona, an attractive, well balanced Georgian home built in 1862 by Robert Meredith Kent. Kalona sits on 15 acres with numerous outbuildings.
