Dr. Murphy will highlight Louisa County’s ties to this important history, exploring the lives of those who labored at UVA and tracing their families through generations. Learn about the challenges and breakthroughs in descendant research and how these efforts contribute to historical recognition and family reconnection.

Hearth Cooking Workshop - A Fireside Feast

Have you ever cooked a meal over a fire at an open hearth? Come experience the enjoyment of hearth-cooking and taste the delicious fruits of your labor! Receive basic instruction in preparation and cooking in our 18th-century Michie House hearth. Participants gather at the end to enjoy a group meal!
These monthly cooking lessons with the Louisa Hearth Cooking Guild provide hands-on experience with traditional cooking methods, tools, and recipes. These cooking lessons with the Louisa Hearth Guild are for ages 18 and older.
Revenues from tickets benefit the operations of the Louisa County Historical Society.
Registration fee is $45 per person (18 years or older).

Bus Trip to the R.R. Moton Museum

March 1, 2025

11:00 am - 6:00 pm

Hop on the bus to Farmville, Virginia, and visit the former Robert Russa Moton High School - now a National Historic Landmark and Museum. The site where 16 year-old Barbara Johns courageously led a student walkout in 1951, which helped lay the groundwork for Brown v. Board of Education decision.
